Microsoft releases first draft of PatchGuard APIs (Dec 20 2006 21:59 GMT) - Microsoft Corp. today released draft application programming interfaces designed to allow third-party security products to get around a contentious kernel protection technology in the Vista operating system called PatchGuard. The draft APIs will be available to security vendors for testing and comment through the end of January. A final version of the APIs will then become available when Microsoft releases Service Pack 1 for Vista sometime in mid-2007, according to Ben Fathi, vice president of development for the Windows Core Operating System. Microsoft today also released a separate criteria evaluation document that details the processes Microsoft used in evaluating vendor requests for APIs to the Vista kernel. |

Microsoft Releases Windows Vista System Requirements (Dec 20 2006 21:59 GMT) - Microsoft has updated its Get Ready Web site to include the minimum system requirements to run Windows Vista. A Windows Vista Capable PC must include at least a CPU running at 800MHz, 512 MB of RAM, a DirectX 9 graphics card capable of at least 800x600, a CD-ROM drive and a 20 GB HDD with at least 15 GB free for the install. He found several students sharing one PC. One aggressive kid was handling the mouse, while the rest were mere spectators. When Joyojeet began his summer internship at Microsoft Research in Bangalore, he met assistant researcher Udai Singh Pawar and assistant MD of Microsoft Research India, Kentaro Toyama, who listened to his experiences at the Azim Premji Foundation.
