The kit and you... (Dec 29 2006 23:38 GMT) - Something I'm sure everyone knows, but rarely takes advantage of is the fact that your kit limitations are only as great as your imagination and ability to react on the battlefield. Here are some examples... Have a dead medic or just killed an assault class enemy? Grab their kit! If you find yourself wounded after the fire fight then grabbing an assault kit and dropping their med pack before picking your old kit back up will see you patched up and ready for round two in no time. |

[Slashdot] NASA Needs Fake Moon Dust (Dec 29 2006 23:38 GMT) - crisco writes "NASA's renewed interest in lunar exploration and 'in situ resource utilization,' or ISRU, is driving the need for tons of carefully faked lunar dust and sand for testing purposes: 'We don't have enough real moondust to go around,' says Larry Taylor, director of Planetary Geosciences Institute at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. To run all the tests, "we need to make a well-qualified lunar simulant.' And not just a few bags will do. 'We need tons of it, mainly for working on technologies for diggers and wheels and machinery on the surface,' adds David S. |

Township to buy flood-prone homes in Wayne? (Dec 29 2006 23:36 GMT) - When it rains heavily in Wayne, New Jersey, it floods. Homes are ruined, and people rebuild, often at taxpayer expense. Then it floods again, and history repeats itself. Now, there is a move to stop the flood of history. The town would buy dozens of homes in the flood plain, and destroy them. |

[Techdirt] Ford Makes The BSOD A Model Option (Dec 29 2006 23:29 GMT) - Just in case legislators needed more in-car distractions to crusade against, Microsoft and Ford are set to unveil plans for a new in-car communications system at January's Detroit auto show and at CES. Dubbed "Sync," the system will offer drivers a hands-free Bluetooth wireless headset and an in-vehicle operating system, letting users chat, check e-mail, or download music on the go. There's no word on what kind of connectivity this system will use to link users to the outside world -- and if it's using 3G services, whether you'll get to use your Ford hatchback as a Wi-Fi hotspot, given the restrictive nature of some companies' 3G access plans. The 103-year-old Ford Motor Company has plenty of problems right now, and it's not clear how offering the BSOD as an option is going to address the fact Toyota is still kicking their inefficient, unreliable butt. While services like this have been in higher-end cars for a while, it's not clear how popular these services will be with more economical drivers, since it's mobile communications functionality many people already have (and pay handsomely for) via smartphone. |

HTC Herald = VPA Compact IV (Dec 29 2006 23:26 GMT) - "From today, Vodafone Germany is selling the HTC Herald Windows Mobile Pocket PC Phone Edition as VPA compact IV. The HTC Herald is, more or less, HTC's 2.5G follower of the HTC Wizard, since both devices supports 2.5G only but not 3G and both features a slide-out keyboard - while the Herald features a semi-automatic sliding mechanism now. Other features and improvements are that the Herald is just 17 mm thick, hosts a large internal memory of 128 MB ROM and 64 MB RAM and the Herald is a true international roamer since it supports quadband GSM/GPRS/EDGE as well as it supports Bluetooth and WiFi b/g - for sure. |
