Some Antibiotics Bounced (Feb 13 2007 23:59 GMT) - Posted By Gerald PuglieseFrom Disease-Proof Pretty ironic, yesterday I blogged about the problems surrounding America’s freewheeling love affair with antibiotics and now, according to the Associated Press, the FDA has restricted an antibiotic linked to reports of severe liver problems. Sandisk intros 8GB iNAND embedded flash drive (Feb 13 2007 23:59 GMT) - Filed under: StorageIt may not be 16GB, but Sandisk's new embeddable 8GB NAND flash drive is still pretty darn spacious as far as these things go, so much so that the company's deemed it necessary use an extra letter to fully express the drive's expansiveness. Dubbed the "iNAND," the drive is fully JEDEC-compliant (that's Joint Electron Device Engineering Council, for those that have better things to memorize) and SD bus-compatible, designed for use in just about anything that needs to cram a lot of storage into a small space, including cellphones, PDAs, MP3 players, and GPS devices. It looks like we'll still have to wait a while before we see one of these actually turn up in a device, however, with SanDisk only just now distributing engineering samples for testing and evaluation, with mass production slated to get underway sometime in the third quarter of this year.[Via Tech Digest] |

More Resignations! More Apologies! (Feb 13 2007 23:57 GMT) - Melissa McEwan has now also resigned: I regret to say that I have also resigned from the Edwards campaign. In spite of what was widely reported, I was not hired as a blogger, but a part-time technical advisor, which is the role I am vacating. I would like to make very clear that the campaign did not push me out, nor was my resignation the back-end of some arrangement made last week. This was a decision I made, with the campaign's reluctant support, because my remaining the focus of sustained ideological attacks was inevitably making me a liability to the campaign, and making me increasingly uncomfortable with my and my family's level of exposure. |

Get Illuminated podcast 005 - Scott Rosenberg (Feb 13 2007 23:56 GMT) - Mark Frauenfelder: In 2001, Mitch Kapor, the designer of the Lotus 1-2-3 spreadsheet, and the co-founder of the Electronic Frontier Foundation, started the Open Source Applications Foundation, or OSAF for short. Kapor hired some of the most talented programmers and software designers around and went to work to create a new kind of personal information manager, code named Chandler. In 2003, Scott Rosenberg, the cofounder of Salon, asked Kapor if he could embed himself in OSAF for the purposes of writing a book about the development of the application. For three years, Rosenberg sat in on company meetings, met with programmers and designers, and observed the progress, or more accurately, lack of progress, of Chandler. |
