100 Hour Agenda Stalled in Senate (Feb 28 2007 23:06 GMT) - From the latest Evans-Novak Political Report: "Republicans have recovered from the initial blow of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's (D-Calif.) early blitz, thanks largely to the Senate's playing its historical role of the saucer cooling the hot coffee from the House. Of the six early bills passed by the House, none has yet gotten through the whole legislative process." "The minimum wage increase surely will be passed in time, but the House-approved measure for now is stuck in the Senate quagmire. |

Action Alert - Support the FAIR USE Act! (Feb 28 2007 23:02 GMT) - Action Alert - Support the FAIR USE Act! Reps. Rick Boucher and John Doolittle's FAIR USE Act [PDF] would remove some of the entertainment industry's most draconian anti-innovation weapons and chip away at the Digital Millennium Copyright Act's (DMCA) broad restrictions on fair use. Take action now and tell Congress to help restore balance in copyright now. Technology companies play a game of Russian roulette whenever they create products with both infringing and non-infringing uses. |

Baby used as down payment for used Dodge Intrepid (Feb 28 2007 23:02 GMT) - Filed under: Car Buying, Government/Legal, Dodge Oh baby, we really can't make this stuff up, folks. Pueblo, Colorado police arrested three people on charges of using a 5-month-old baby as a down payment on a car - not even a new car, but a used Dodge Intrepid. A young woman apparently tried to get a car and some cash and only had the baby to offer in exchange. Allegedly, Nicole Uribe gave the baby to Jose-Juan Lerma and his wife, Irene, for the down payment on the car. |

DIY: Install Windows Vista Using a Flash Drive (Feb 28 2007 23:00 GMT) - A flash drive that can install an operating system is one of the most useful tools for any computer repair monkey (I should know, that occupation took many years away from me). Like its older counterpart, Vista also has the ability to be installed via a USB flash drive, with a little work on your part. Kurt Shintaku wrote a surprisingly small tutorial on how to do so. I plan on creating a Vista-installing USB flash drive simply as a back-up. I really just need to take more care of my CDs, but this is easier, kind of. |

Volcom signs Birds of Avalon (Feb 28 2007 23:00 GMT) - Volcom has announced the signing of Raleign, North Carolina's Birds of Avalon. The group is described as traversing an area between raw rock and atmospheric pysch-pop. Birds Of Avalon “can tear it up in a three-minute barn-burner or lure you into an extended psychedelic journey, wandering schizophrenically like a Brian May guitar solo,” so says Jens Lekman of Cincinnati City Beat. The label will be releasing Bazaar, Bazaar on May 22nd, and the album was produced by Mitch Easter (R.E. |

Ice cream as fertility aid? Experts skeptical (Feb 28 2007 23:00 GMT) - Ben & Jerry might help you get pregnant, but not in the usual way. A diet rich in ice cream and other high-fat dairy foods may lower the risk of one type of infertility, a study suggests. It sounds too good to be true and probably is, some doctors say. Kids Keep Slimmer When in School (Feb 28 2007 23:00 GMT) - It’s during summer vacation when many put on too much weight, study finds If you think young children spend their summers running around, keeping trim, think again.
