Viacom sues Google (Mar 14 2007 04:59 GMT)

- The big news in the tech blogosphere today is Viacom suing Google over YouTube. Obviously this is a negotiation, either that or Viacom is jumping off the bridge and hoping that the fall doesn't kill them. On 2/28/07 I observed that the entertainment industry is comfortable negotiating with the tech industry, but that's not the negotiation that matters -- they should negotiate with users, because ultimately that's how the matter of whether or not they have a future will be decided. A Sensible Proposal for Iraq (Mar 14 2007 04:59 GMT)

- The House leadership has been stretched and twisted and turned and played on the current House supplemental appropriation "compromise" for Iraq. The resulting bill, as BarbinMD describes, reflects that tortured process. The result, a bill that few can really be satisfied with, except maybe Bush. Among the dissatisfied are the Blue Dogs that Stoller identified who are opposing the bill because it sets a date for withdrawal (even though it doesn't have any real way of enforcing that date). But after forcing the Progressive Caucus to come to heel in appeasing the Blue Dogs, the leadership has decided to give them free rein.

- Even miniscule amounts of chromium 6 can cause cancer. Blame that do-gooder nutrient, vitamin C. Brown University researchers have discovered that naturally occurring vitamin C reacts inside human lung cells with chromium 6, or hexavalent chromium, and causes massive DNA damage. read more

Boston: A Boston Hotel's Hidden Irish Pub (Mar 14 2007 04:53 GMT)

- If you're headed to Boston for this St. Patrick's Day weekend, you may want to stay overnight at the Boston Park Plaza Hotel. But if you need to iChat with your friend in Dublin, just remember this place has wickedly slow WiFi. However, this is a place to stay if you want to get in the spirit of St. Patrick's Day--which is drink your face off, wear ridiculous green clothing, stuff your face, sing some songs and then pass out/urinate in public.

Epiphany on Iraq: Netroots Starts To Get It (Mar 14 2007 04:53 GMT)

- Chris and Matt begin to understand. I had to chuckle a bit at this one, though I totally agree, and did a week ago: [P]rogressives get whipped into voting for a compromise, and Blue Dogs get to "vote their conscience." Progressives are expected to compromise their beliefs, but then the leadership won't even stand up and fight for a compromise they wrangled out of the progressives.

Audio popping and static in Vista (Mar 14 2007 04:44 GMT)

- Hello everyone, I've been trying to get ideas on the Dell forums about this issue, and figured I'd try here to see if this is an issue that reaches beyond Dell computers. I have a Dell Inspiron E1505, Vista Home Premium, Duo Core 2 2Ghz, 2GB Ram, 7200 RPM HD. Now, you would think that with all of this that playing a simple MP3 file would be a piece of cake, but alas it is not. Whenever I play MP3's, WMA's, MIDI files, or just about any audio file, I get random popping and clicking during the track. This ISN'T the "skipping at the last 20 seconds of the song" deal.
