Sony PSP Review: Chili Con Carnage (Mar 29 2007 04:52 GMT) - The PSP is a poor, unlucky console: gamers complain about it receiving PS2-hand-me-downs that are drab and boring, but when a gem does show up, they seem to ignore it. Chili Con Carnage is such a game. A retooled version of 2005 action game Total Overdose, this portable version scraps (almost) everything bad from the original, and adds even more craziness and 'spice' to it, creating a truly enjoyable game that features over-the-top action, like its supposed to. Total Overdose was known for its big explosions, crazy storylines and its over-the-top acrobatic moves that could be executed in slow motion, ala The Matrix. |

Pirate Fighting Rumor: Apple Locking Hacked Apple TVs? (Mar 29 2007 04:50 GMT) - I was about to write a post—a non CTIA, non-cellphone post—about Apple TV hack tutorials over at Tutorial Ninjas. They've got Joost running on an Apple TV, along with a nice collection of useful hacks. Then I noticed they'd put up a post claiming that Apple used the Apple TV's live Internet connection to detect mods and shut down the devices. |

Music Review: Landon Pigg - LP (Mar 29 2007 04:46 GMT) - Landon Pigg is one rock star who earned my esteem before I had ever heard him sing or seen him perform onstage. It's an odd name - the type of name that gets you beat up and relieved of your lunch money as a kid in the school yard. Or, on a completely unrelated downside, it gets you mistaken for a character in a children's fable. Point being: It is decidedly not the type of name to light up a marquee. |

Why Is This Woman Running Anything? (Mar 29 2007 04:45 GMT) - Getty image This is the face of the Bush Administration: GSA administrator and Bush political appointee Lurita Doan (one of the most corrupt members of the Bush team), who told Congress with a straight face today that she couldn?t remember presentations she made in front of hundreds of staff using PowerPoints by Karl Rove. Her staff was there to verify to Congress that in fact Doan did make these presentations, but she made both herself and the administration she works for look like a poor excuse for a retirement community bingo board. Watch Democratic representative Bruce Braley of Iowa and Brian Higgins of New York make things uncomfortable for Doan. |

Electrochromic sunglasses change color on demand (Mar 29 2007 04:32 GMT) - Filed under: WearablesWe'll admit, we didn't think MyDo's Bururu vibrating spectacles would be topped anytime soon, and while the University of Washington's smart sunglasses don't snatch the crown outright, they certainly make a solid case. The admittedly gaudy prototype certainly isn't the most attractive eyewear we've ever seen, but researchers are insisting that we focus on the electrochromic material that enables on demand color / tint changing rather than the bulky frames. The film can purportedly alter its transparency depending on the electric current that flows through it, essentially giving athletes and motorists an easy way to instantly adjust the level of reflection and tint depending on the ever-changing circumstances around them. Touted as "more active and more intelligent" that existing specs, this watch-battery-powered device allows the wearer to alter the shade by simply spinning a wee dial on the arm, and while we wish we could tell you that U-Dub's swank new specs would be arriving before the bright summer rays, it'll be quite "a few years" before these hit commercialization. |

Yahoo opens up e-mail APIs to outsiders (Mar 29 2007 04:31 GMT) - Yahoo on Wednesday is expected to release software that will allow third-party developers to write applications using Yahoo Mail. The move to open up the application programming interfaces (APIs) to Yahoo Mail is meant to encourage Web developers to build applications that use the mail service. The company expects these third-party "mashups," hybrid software that combines content from more than one source, will bring in more customers. "There is tremendous potential for additional usage of Mail. By providing more user experiences, we believe we will increase engagement and utilization of the platform," said John Kraemer, vice president of Yahoo Mail. |

Music Review: Peggy Seeger - Three Score and Ten (Mar 29 2007 04:30 GMT) - Peggy Seeger is not as well known in the United States as her more famous musical brothers Pete and Mike. Folk music fans and feminists likely recognize one of her most famous songs, "I'm Gonna Be an Engineer," but for the most part, Seeger remains under the radar of the general listening public, and it is our loss. |
