Molester gets [only] 4 months jail (Apr 01 2007 21:59 GMT) - A real-estate agent from Severna Park who admitted molesting his daughter for seven years and also sexually abused two nieces over nearly 20 years was sentenced yesterday to four months in jail. The short sentence surprised prosecutors, who pointed in court to all the hurt the man caused his family. It also outraged some of the man's neighbors, who have said his daughter needs to be protected from him. |

Horror Story (Apr 01 2007 21:59 GMT) - A crusade against pedophiles has made [Lydia Cacho Ribeiro], who will be in Washington tomorrow and Tuesday to be honored by Amnesty International, one of Mexico's most celebrated and imperiled journalists. She is a target in a country where at least 17 journalists have been killed in the past five years and that trailed only Iraq in media deaths during 2006. Do-gooders and victims want to meet her, want to share their stories. Bad guys -- well, they want her in a coffin. |

Ban Bilingual Education (Apr 01 2007 21:59 GMT) - Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich equated bilingual education Saturday with "the language of living in a ghetto" and mocked requirements that ballots be printed in multiple languages. I put this in the current events category because Gingrich is only "considering" a run, and technically not in the 2008 race. He probably won't get the Republican nod even if he does decide to run. |

[Wikipedia] Trail of Tears (Apr 01 2007 21:59 GMT) - The Trail of Tears refers to the forced relocation in 1838 of the Cherokee Native American tribe to the Western United States, which resulted in the deaths of an estimated 4,000 Cherokees. In the Cherokee language, the event is called Nunna daul Isunyi—"The Trail Where We Cried." The Cherokees were not the only Native Americans forced to emigrate as a result of the Indian Removal efforts of the United States, and so the phrase "Trail of Tears" is sometimes used to refer to similar events endured by other Indian peoples, especially among the "Five Civilized Tribes" of the Creeks, Choctaw, Seminole, Chickasaw and Cherokee. |

Next Year we will have a better chance.... (Apr 01 2007 21:58 GMT) - This year I hope the Leafs can make the playoffs, if they do I'm still not convinced they belong though. The team is just way too inconsistent, their needs to be some changes. With the salary cap going up next season, and the Leafs with some excess spending money, they will definitely make some upgrades. |
