Six reasons why I think Joost is lame (May 16 2007 23:59 GMT) - Lately, I’ve been hearing a lot of buzz about Joost, a new Internet video platform. People seem genuinely excited about it, and the invites are flying left and right. After picking up an invite of my own, I downloaded the application, tried it for a few minutes, and I came to a simple conclusion almost [... |

New Y! Maps Tiles: Topology and Typography (May 16 2007 23:59 GMT) - The new Yahoo! Maps tile engine Galileo is beautiful. Beauty in this case is very readable text labels, color coded neighborhoods, county line markings, icons for things like hospitals, and on regional views, a shaded topographic mapping. The thing that impresses me most about this release is that you get a lot more information without [...] |

Philly CFUG and Scorpio (May 16 2007 23:59 GMT) - Adam Lehman and Tim Buntel graced us with their presence at the Philly CFUG meeting tonight. Is ColdFusion the only dynamic/static hybrid language? (May 16 2007 23:57 GMT) - I've been thinking about it lately, and I cant't seem to think of any (in my admittedly small set of knowledge) other language that allows you to be dynamic by leaving out language constructs (such as the type and returntype attributes of parameters and functions), but that, when you do decide to use them, the language acts statically (and is CF even acting statically when it checks the arguments, or is it acting strongly?). For all you supermultilingual coders out there: do you know of any o |

Missed the Scorpio Road Show (May 16 2007 23:56 GMT) - Due to a SNAFU at work yesterday I missed the Philly stop in the Scorpio Road Show. I'm disappointed because I had a few questions I wanted to ask Adam and Tim about the upcoming CF release. I was also looking forward to catching up with some of my former co-workers and other local CF develpers... Oh well, hopefully one of my fellow Philly bloggers will fill me in on what I missed. |

The Bevy Project: The L's (May 16 2007 23:55 GMT) - The Bevy Project is nearing completion. No more galleries will be added, but there are still many more photos to be tucked away on the various pages. They will come slowly, though, as the Internets have currently been stripped bare of erotically inclined shots of Grade A, perfect ten, smokin' hot hotties - which is what TBP is all about. So check back at your leisure. It's time for the credits to roll, then, and we'll continue with the L's: |

Philly CFUG Scorpio Review (May 16 2007 23:54 GMT) - Over 40 people attended the ColdFusion 8 Road Show with Adam Lehman and Tim Buntel stop at the Philly CFUG yesterday, held at the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School. Before getting into highlights of the meeting, the facilities at Wharton are absolutely top notch. The lecture hall was nice and roomy, no standing room only as has happened at past meetings of the group (which is a good thing, though). Second, I've never seen presenters able to just walk up, hook their laptop up |

Microsoft Research tackles mobile touch-screen problem (May 16 2007 23:53 GMT) - Daniel Vogel, a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Toronto, and Patrick Baudisch, a scientist at Microsoft Research, have created a technique designed to make it easier to select items on a mobile-phone screen with a finger rather than a pointed stylus. The Microsoft Research project, called Shift, automatically displays a circular image with a small "x" on the screen above where a user places his finger. By toggling the tip of his finger, a user can move the X to place it on top of the item he wants to choose. |
