Such a scenario could likely be possible among our "morally superior" troops (Jun 14 2007 23:59 GMT) - His Fraudulency's Great Within continues getting desperate about the want of glowing-sounding "good news" in the MSM vis-à-vis our supposedly "morally-superior" troops in the ur-RAHOWA Against International Terrorism. So desperate, in fact, that he could expect his dearest drookie in dirty... N.B. This is only a brief summary. |

Glitch RP's (Jun 14 2007 23:58 GMT) - Guys, If you are in a squad and see your rp in a wall glitched, please ask them (SL's) politely to move it away from the wall. I was playing the other night and in the about 3-4 maps I seen 7 rp's in walls, buildings(ones that cant be entered), and rocks. This is all against the server rule. Just ask whoever the SL is to move it. So far it happen to me a few times and i had no problem asking the SL to move it and referred them to TG for further rules. |

NAB Gets Upset When FCC Commissioner Calls Out Broadcasters (Jun 14 2007 23:58 GMT) - FCC Commissioner Michael Copps had an interesting op-ed in the New York Times several days ago, spelling out what he sees as the failure of broadcasters to live up to the public-interest requirements of their licenses. It's hard to find much fault in what he says, both because he highlights the shoddy job many broadcasters do, but also the failings of the FCC in ensuring they live up to their end of the bargain. Unsurprisingly, the piece evoked a response from the head of the National Association of Broadcasters, who (with a straight face, we presume), touted broadcasters' "public service commitment". That's a pretty laughable claim, and as Orbitcast points out, it's undermined by the NAB's backing of a bill that would ban satellite radio companies from airing local content, including Amber Alerts and other emergency information. If the NAB really had the public interest at heart, why would it try and limit the ways in which this sort of information could be distributed, and to create its own monopoly on local content? |

RE: Lots of Flagged Items bugs and weird behavior (Jun 14 2007 23:56 GMT) - Ok I deleted the other thread, sorry about that.Good to know that these are known issues, I hope they get fixed ASAP. The way I use NNW, I rely on flagged items and right now they are almost entirely unusable and very frustrating. Wish I knew about this before upgrading. Is there a way to get access to early/private betas? |

Another Tough Gig - I Enter the Lion'S Den (Jun 14 2007 23:55 GMT) - I don't post conference announcements but I can't resist passing along this session description )because it captures so many of my own predispositions): "Our keynote speaker has been working closely with UBC's IT professionals for years, and has consistently vexed them with his unorthodox demands and unwillingness to specify use cases. Brian will attempt to defend his shockingly lax approach to planning as a grounded philosophy intended to foster user autonomy and innovation. He will also review some approaches to web strategy that are emerging outside of campus environments, such as open access to content and open APIs, and attempt to make a case why we need to learn from these efforts and apply them within our educational institutions." He remarks, 'I see that the organizers deleted my concluding sentence, which was: |

How has Information Changed? (Jun 14 2007 23:51 GMT) - Tom Hoffman's observations - that this post is not about the nature of information at all - are on point. But the post is illustrative of common misconceptions about the changing nature of media. Of these, forst is probably the confusion between 'information' and 'content'. By 'content' we can mean the messages sent over various media, including television, tabloid newspapers, email, radio, and the rest. But not all of this content is information - if the message is one you've already heard, or if the message is of no use to you, then it is not 'information'. |
