CO-Sen: Presumptive GOP Nominee In Ethics Heat (Aug 21 2007 23:59 GMT) - We've long known that Colorado would be one of the most difficult Senate seats for the Republicans to hold in 2008. Even before incumbent Republican Senator Wayne Allard announced back in January that he would not run for reelection, the general trends in the state -- Democrats picking up a Senate seat, the governorship, two congressional seats and both houses of the state legislature, for instance -- indicated that Colorado would be ripe territory for the Democrats this cycle regardless of whether or not Allard sought another term. As it so happened, Colorado Republicans were unable to recruit their favored candidate for the race and instead were forced to settle on former Congressman Bob Schaffer, a far right conservative who was best known recently for having lost a Senate primary in 2004. On the other hand, the Democrats were able to recruit their favored candidate, popular Congressman Mark Udall (a Republican poll from 2003 showed Coloradans then viewed Udall favorably by a 36 percent to 12 percent margin). Not only does Udall seem to be generally more attractive of a candidate than Schaffer, he has a rather large financial lead at this point, with $2. |

You have to EAT to get flatter abs (Aug 21 2007 23:59 GMT) - Filed under: Wine, Grains, Vegetables, Dairy, Nuts/seeds, Fish, Poultry, Cheese, Fruit, Lists, How To, Meat, Health & Medical, Rice We want to believe that there is a magic pill that will melt the fat off our bodies. We even hope there's some secret formula that nobody else knows. In the end, however, in our heart of hearts, we always know that "the formula" for staying trim is no formula at all. |

Yukatan (Aug 21 2007 23:56 GMT) - In 1993 this amazing new band won the Icelandic “Battle of the Bands”. They were kinda innocent looking but the music was heavy, dark and somewhat menacing. What probably secured their victory was the drummer, Ólafur Björn Ólafsson, often nicknamed Obo, who hit the drums like the devil himself. At the time he was one [... |

Enchanted pathway [Flickr] (Aug 21 2007 23:55 GMT) - Secret Tenerife posted a photo: This pathway - that lies between the Bodegón Patamero and the geranium filled plaza in Las Lagunetas - could almost be the entrance to the secret garden and probably did once lead into the "enchanted" woodlands. Where does it go? |

Cozumel Skirts Hurricane Dean - Tourism Unharmed (Aug 21 2007 23:52 GMT) - The island of Cozumel experienced only tropical storm winds, as Hurricane Dean moved through Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula early Tuesday morning on August 21. Cozumel is in excellent shape and the island's tourism infrastructure is completely intact. According to Raul Marrufo, Director of the Cozumel Tourism Promotion Board, "Cozumel was well prepared for Dean, but fortunately the hurricane did not pass through the island," explained Marrufo. "Cozumel is back to normal... |

Baby talk is universal (Aug 21 2007 23:52 GMT) - An interesting study at UCLA indicates that baby talk is universal -- that is, even people in "an indigenous, nonindustrialized, and nonliterate culture" can easily tell if speech in an unfamiliar language is directed toward an infant or another adult. |

Sleek night vision monocular (Aug 21 2007 23:50 GMT) - The IGen NV20/20 is a night-vision monocular that magnifies by 2.6 times what you are looking at. According to our friends from Random Good Stuff, this devices is twice as sensitive as previous generations, amplifying the ambient light 650 times (note that you still need *some* light). In total darkness conditions and at short range, just use the integrated infra-red light (illuminator, in blue on the photo). In automatic mode, the monocular will adapt itself to the darkness conditions but it is also possible to select the aperture time (to capture more light), at the expense of the frame rate (number of images per second). |
