Doubt: The Perfect Gift (Dec 06 2007 12:45 GMT) - Susan Jacoby Author and reporter I don't accept the premise of the question--that "millions of Americans in mixed marriages are unsure about their conception of God." For the most part, what bothers parents in mixed marriages--if in fact they are bothered--is how to mediate between cultural traditions rooted in conflicting ideas not only about God but about history itself. During the holiday season, explaining God is much less of a problem than explaining why Granny O'Reilly has a Christmas tree and a creche while Granny Bernstein has a menorah and is less than thrilled when she hears her grandchildren talk about the baby Jesus lying in the manger. I have a very different problem: how to explain why I don't believe in a supernatural being in whom most Americans (as children know very well) do believe. |

I have been considering exactly what it means to live in a Pantheistic universe. When I have been asked my religious views I have been describing myself as a Pantheist as I have realized that this is what I truly believe. But what never ceases to astound me is exactly what this means: |

La Befana (Dec 06 2007 12:45 GMT) - by Bob Rini In Italy, there is no Santa Claus. La Befana, a witch on a broom, brings the presents. The story goes that the wise men asked for directions to Bethlehem, but an old woman refused to help because she was too busy. Later she had a change of heart, but couldn't find them to help. Now she must roam the world looking for the Christ child to atone for her sins, and bringing presents and sacks of ashes to the children. |

The Perils of Playing House (Dec 06 2007 12:45 GMT) - Living together before marriage seems like a smart way to road test the relationship. But cohabitation may lead you to wed for all the wrong reasons -- or turn into a one-way trip to splitsville. By:Nancy Wartik Page 1 of 5 Forget undying love or shared hopes and dreams -- my boyfriend and I moved in together, a year after meeting, because of a potential subway strike. He lived in Manhattan, and I across the river in Brooklyn. |

¡Aunque usted no lo crea! (Dec 06 2007 12:45 GMT) - La diferencia entre el César y George W.
