Cardinal Newman's beatification reported imminent (Jan 09 2008 00:59 GMT) - Folks, just a short note - I've been pretty busy lately - to share with you the news that Cardinal Jose Saraiva Martins, Prefect of the Vatican's Congregation for the Cause of the Saints, has announced that the beatification of the great British convert and scholar, Cardinal John Henry Newman, is "imminent," as reported by the Catholic News Agency. You may read the entire news article here. This is great news to an ample number of Catholic converts from Protestantism and Anglicanism. Because of his erudition, apologetical acumen and clarity of thought, Cardinal Newman has become a sort of patron saint for intelectual seekers. Let us rejoice for the Church and praise Christ for having given us such a blessed one as teacher, guide, and companion for along the way. |
