Pine cones and fire hydrants (Feb 29 2008 21:58 GMT) - It's been so nice outside lately. I think Rachel and I have gone for a walk almost everyday this week, and today was no different. This afternoon Rachel was being fussy so I got out the stroller and she clapped her hands. I like being applauded for everything that I do. It makes even the most trivial task seem a whole lot more meaningful. |

The Politics of Fear (Feb 29 2008 21:57 GMT) - President George W. Bush gave us the politics of fear. Ever since 9/11 he has been scaring us to vote for him and the Republican warriors. And it worked. Arguably, it was his and Karl Rove's exploitation of fear that got him reelected in 2004. |

Cool Obama (Feb 29 2008 21:57 GMT) - After hearing so much about her "throwing the kitchen sink" at Obama, Senator Clinton wilted not from Obama's attacks but from his cool, calm, and complimentary rhetoric. At the Democratic Debate last night, he answered all her charges in an even, confident voice and where possible he complimented Clinton.... |

Why No Questions about Climate Change? (Feb 29 2008 21:57 GMT) - Have you noticed that at these political debates, nobody asks questions about the biggest threat facing this nation as well as the world: climate change? Sure, occasionally the candidates talk about energy independence or something similar. But questioners never bring up the subject. Why?.... |

Self Reliance (Feb 29 2008 21:57 GMT) - A Republican blogger named Jack, who loves Bush and his policies, has asked Democrats to list all their complaints against Republicans while he listed all the things that made him proud to be a Republican. Naturally Democratic visitors could not resist and piled it on. So you see, Jack said, Democrats do nothing but bitch. Even when they list good things they are really complaining.... |

Straight-Talking McCain (Feb 29 2008 21:57 GMT) - Senator John McCain boasts being a man of integrity, a man of principles, a straight talker. You may not agree with him on some issues but he is consistent and you can depend on him. I used to think so too a long time ago. But in recent years as he has been lusting after the presidency, he has changed his position on many issues.... |

Obamacom (Feb 29 2008 21:57 GMT) - Barack Obama has hit the country like a "tidal wave," according to one pundit. Yes, indeed. But there's no reason to call this phenomenon Obamamania. It is not a mania. Barack Obama is telling us that though we disagree on some things, we can form a community to achieve the common good. |

Bush and McCain Together (Feb 29 2008 21:57 GMT) - Many in the Republican Party are upset because of the probability that John McCain will be the Republican nominee for president. He is not a true conservative, they say. President George W. Bush says McCain definitely is a conservative and he will help McCain win the general election. I hope he does work for McCain.... |

Are Biofuels Good or Bad for Fighting Climate Change? (Feb 29 2008 21:57 GMT) - For a long time I've been thinking that burning biofuels, such as ethanol, produces less CO2 than burning gasoline. I thought this was especially so in a setup where new crops are grown to replace those used for fuel. A couple of new scientific studies say this is not so. They also point out the complexity of the climate change problem.... |

Tortured Republican Values (Feb 29 2008 21:57 GMT) - The debate about waterboarding and torture has been going on for years. The president has proclaimed many times "We don't torture." Attorney General Mukasey bounced around the issue when he was asked at a senate hearing whether he thought waterboarding was torture. Suddenly, the Whitehouse proclaims that waterboarding is legal: ... |

Obama Has Already Won (Feb 29 2008 21:57 GMT) - Tomorrow is Super Tuesday. People in more than 20 states will vote in large numbers in primaries. More than at any time that I can remember, the drama is high, more non-voters are becoming voters, and everyone is in suspense. I say that regardless of what happens tomorrow, Barack Obama has already won... |

Cagey Mukasey (Feb 29 2008 21:57 GMT) - Michael Mukasey, who replaced Gonzales as our top Justice guy, is afraid to admit that waterboarding is torture. And he wends and weaves his way through a legal labyrinthe of his own construction in order to confuse senators and the rest of us. Cagey Mukasey will not say whether he thinks waterboarding is legal. How should he know?... |

Obama the Uplifter (Feb 29 2008 21:57 GMT) - As everybody knows by now, Barack Obama won big in South Carolina: He beat Hillary Clinton 55 to 27. The results are even bigger than this implies because a few months back Clinton had a double digit lead over Obama. Obama won not because he has a better program than Clinton, but because whereas Clinton is a political fighter Obama is an uplifter with a broad vision for the country.... |

A Free Blog or A Paid Blog? [Danilo 'Catch Friday' Del Campo] (Feb 29 2008 21:57 GMT) - Knowing how to communicate is one of the most important skills that a company must have, in order to attract customers in the market place. Do you blog information that clients want to read? Or do you blog nonsense that closes your shop? Does the idea of business on a blog attract you to read it? Personally I like to be in charge of what I write, and subsequently our writers adapt our style. |

Maria Luisa Giiel: No Tengo Edad (Feb 29 2008 21:56 GMT) - Antologia de la Musica Cubana: La Musica de los Anos, Vol. 6 I don't know anything about the singer other than that she's Cuban and was alive in the sixties. Most of you probably won't like No Tengo Edad (It says "No Tego Edad" on the CD), but I found it interesting in that it's a strait romantic song with little to distinguish it as Cuban and no discernible African influence. The play's the thing (Feb 29 2008 21:56 GMT) - I have to note (via WizBang) this story of Code Pinko Medea Benjamin calling out for rescue by the Marines she had but a few minutes before been insulting as cold blooded killers. What mades Benjamin different from normal, sane people is that she won’t achieve the level of introspection needed to see why the rest of us find this so amusing and emblematic. |
