Microsoft backs out of Yahoo acquisition (May 05 2008 02:51 GMT) - The show is, at least for now over as Microsoft, through the voice of its CEO, Steve Ballmer, has announced that it is withdrawing its acquisition bid for Yahoo. Although the unsolicited offer was raised by an additional $5 billion as of late, Yahoo continued to politely refuse becoming part of Microsoft's empire and even made some moves like partially cuddling up with Google in order to make sure it wouldn't be bought. Even though Microsoft suggested that a hostile takeover was possible, the company simply backed off with Ball stating that "After careful consideration, we believe the economics demanded by Yahoo! do not make sense for us, and it is in the best interests of Microsoft stockholders, employees and other stakeholders to withdraw our proposal.” In response to Microsoft's decision Jerry Yang, Yahoo's co-founder and CEO made the following statement - "I am incredibly proud of the way our team has come together over the last three months. |
