Kelly kid-porn case said yesterday that she recognized the R&B superstar, as well as the teen who appeared in the sex tape at the center of the case. Simha Jamison, 24, testified that her friend introduced the Grammy-winning singer to her when they were both 13 and that she witnessed Kelly give the girl cash, ranging from $100 to $500, on numerous occasions. The girls would then go on shopping sprees, she said. Jamison said when they were about 13, they got matching mullet haircuts - a hairdo she recognized on the sex tape. |

- WASHINGTON - Hundreds of patients taking Pfizer's anti-smoking drug Chantix have reported serious accidents, vision problems and heart trouble, researchers said. Researchers at the nonprofit Institute for Safe Medication Practices and at Wake Forest University said they found hundreds of reported problems since the drug's 2006 approval. They included blurred vision, dizziness, confusion and loss of consciousness. Pfizer officials defended Chantix, saying the side effects are mentioned on the drug's label. "When you've got the nicotine withdrawal along with Chantix, it's just very difficult to tell what is causing it," said Gretchen Dieck, a Pfizer senior vice president. |

- WASHINGTON - Student-loan companies, squeezed by the credit crisis, are getting some help from the federal government. Education Secretary Margaret Spellings told the lenders - in a letter obtained by The Associated Press - that the government will purchase some of the loans, freeing up capital. That way, the companies will have more money to issue new loans. "Many lenders today do not have access to funds at a cost that justifies originating new loans," Spellings wrote. "Our plan is designed to provide viability in the marketplace for lenders who step up and make loans in this difficult environment. |
