The Kids Are Alright (Jul 02 2008 23:59 GMT) - I'm hearing opinions that the Marian Hossa deadline deal in retrospect was a bad move and that the Penguins are going to struggle to make the playoffs now that Malone and Hossa, and others are elsewhere. This so called 'ripple affect' from losing Hossa is nonsense and let me tell you why... |

Leafs paying the price for mediocrity (Jul 02 2008 23:59 GMT) - Some teams made big splashes on July 1st, while others made tweaks, and some decided to stand pat. The Maple Leafs, however, in a seven hour period summed up everything that is wrong with their organization. Every july 1 seems to see more massive contracts dealt to mediocre players than the one before it. Over the years of the deal, however, the magnitude of the contracts tend to fade as the salary cap goes up at an alarming rate.The Leafs however, are the only team capable of making signings so inflated, they still look bad in the later terms of the contracts. |

Big Names being chased (Jul 02 2008 23:59 GMT) - Two hot rumors are making the rounds regarding very talented and highly sought after veterans. Apparently the Canucks have offered Sundin a two year contract worth a whopping 10 million per season and the Pittsburgh Penguins are in hot pursuit of veteran Jaromir Jagr. Although not a done deal in either case Sundin is said to be considering all of the options that are on the table. Penguins working hard to sign Hossa (Jul 02 2008 23:59 GMT) - The Pittsburgh Post Gazette is reporting that Marian Hossa is one of the big targets of the Penguins. Despite the fact that Hossa recently turned down a 7 million dollar deal from the Penguins it is believed that the Penguins have been working very hard in order to ink the star player to a new deal. In other free agent news that is found in this article it appears that George Laraque will start to entertain offers due to the fact that he has not been able to come to an agreement with Penguins.
