If Anger Helps You Feel in Control, No Wonder You Can't Control Your Anger! (Jul 11 2008 23:59 GMT) - Reflections on the Most Seductive--and Addictive--of Human Emotions The main title of this piece (which, half-seriously, I've contemplated submitting to various quotation dictionaries) aptly sums up my professional experience working with this so-problematic emotion. In the past 20+ years I've taught well over a hundred classes and workshops on anger management, as well as delivered many professional presentations on the subject. When I first became interested in exploring this typically destructive emotion, the clinical literature devoted to it was curiously scant. But times have changed dramatically since then. With the increasing occurrence of such phenomena as road rage, drive-by shootings, high school and post office killing sprees--in short, with the prevalence of violence in America today--the attention given to acting-out, out-of-control anger may never have been greater. |

Old HDD swap into other old Computer (Jul 11 2008 23:59 GMT) - Hey ya'll, I've been at this for a few hours so I'll sum up as best I can... I've got two old computers at my disposal as well as a host of other spare parts I'd like to combine into a better all around spare machine than either was capable of alone. Now I know mixing parts from old machines isn't always as easy as it sounds, but it just so happens that both machines are from just about the same era and have very similar specs. Here's basically what I'm up to (not my direct problem, but I just want to be thorough) Taking 256 Mb RAM from Compaq machine and 40 Gb HDD (NTFS file system) to replace 128 MB RAM and 20 Gb HDD (FAT32 file system) in my old custom machine. *RAM switch was okay, it's the HDD that's giving me problems Old 300 watt power supply to replace native 250 watt (just had the more powerful supply lying around) Old 256 Mb video card to replace old GeForce 64 Mb card -The 40 Gig drive has windows XP installed and the 20 Gig drive had win 98 which I am currently formatting for use as a handy 20 Gig external unit via a USB adapter. |

Analytical/Intuitive Thinking: PART IV, Patience (Jul 11 2008 23:58 GMT) - If you haven't taken the analytical versus intuitive thinking mode Cognitive Reflection Test (CRT), you should do so at the PART I posting before continuing here. Consider these two questions: Which of these payoffs would you pick? Receive $3,400 this quarter or $3,800 next quarter? |
