Yesterday the BBC were reporting that 3 men found with a truck load of firearms and explosives in Denver were being described by police as not being part of a credible plot to kill Barrack Obama. Interesting choice of words by the police. Why choose to say 'a credible plot', why not just 'a plot', why make the link between them and Obama at all? Sounds to me that the police were admitting that the men were part of a plot to assassinate Obama, it just wasn't credible.

I've been reading a lot of speculation about the next season companion in Doctor Who, coupled with people saying what they'd like. Some people have been saying they'd like two companions, some aliens, some robots &c, some have suggested a malicious companion who uses the Doctor to get access to high tech that they can then exploit for their own gain (didn't we already have that? in both Old!Who and S1).Personally I think I'd prefer two companions who already have an existing relationship, nothing familial or sexual though, and a degree of power imbalance.

The department I work for had a relaunch last Friday to announce the new name and new functions we've taken on. I organised the event. This Thursday we're having a mini roadshow event at Quadrant court so I was up there today to put up posters announcing the event. On my way back I bumped into trav28. I don't know which of us was more suprised.

Went round Tudor Grange Pitch and Putt again yesterday. Took 90 strokes and nearly 3 hours.Here's the stats ( Hole-Strokes to the green/putts on the green-total), all holes are par 3:1-2/3-52-1/2-33-2/3-54-4/3-7 reason it took so long to get round is that the two groups ahead of me were incredibly slow which I found very frustrating, as did the people behind me. At one point (7th tee) there were 4 groups stacked up and waiting.

Had a quick round on Tuesday evening. Again the greens weren't marked (4 and 7 both had a five flag, the others either didn't have a flag at all or had one without a number on) and people were playing the holes out of order. There was the usual error of playing 1-2-4-3-5 and I saw one group playing from the 17th tee onto the 4th green.This time when I recorded my strokes I also separately recorded how many to get to the green and how many putts on the green. Here's my scores (all holes par 3):

I'm aware that some of the people on whose flist I am are into the singer Tori Amos, some are into comic books and some are in both groups. Apparently Tori has collaborated with a bunch of comic book artists to produce a coffee table book entitled "Comic Book Tattoo". The pictures in the book are interpretations of her songs.

I've signed up with a golf website called My Online Golf Course, set up a profile. It's a bit challenging to use, I've found. Whoever developed it seems to be totally into client side Javascript (most of the links are infact JS functions). Plus you have to login about every half hour, which is a pain. I'm going to check out other sites.

Anyone know of any UK based (or at least UK oriented) golf communities on LJ? Ideally I'm looking for something aimed at people who want to improve their game, share problems and solutions, review courses &c. Maybe even somewhere for players to arrange to meetup for a round (e.g. "Golfer in Birmingham, 9 handicap, would like to meet similar for a round this Saturday.

Went around Tudor Grange (Solihull) Pitch and Putt today. Did slightly better than last time, only 42 over par. Here's how I did (Hole-(par)-My Score:1-(3)-72-(3)-63-(3)-74-( wasn't doing too badly until the 18th, then I really fell apart. On the other hand every single one of those was an honest to goodness actual stroke, no penalties for a ball that went flying into the woods and had to be picked and dropped due to being unplayable.
