Legacy: Week Seven

Last night marked the seventh week of...

"...the acrid scents of Autumn..."

(Nov 09 2008 23:59 GMT)
Serried leaves pile 'gainst the rear wall of the house. Browns blend into the ruddy hues of the ancient stone porch. Smoke from the burning fire hangs low in the gray afternoon. The hour seems darker than it should be, as though a pall has fallen...

Luther`s 95 Theses

(Oct 31 2008 07:00 GMT)
Disputation of Doctor Martin Luther on the Power & Efficacy of Indulgences by Dr. Martin Luther, anno Domini 1517Out of love for the truth and the desire to bring it to light, the following propositions will be discussed at Wittenberg, under the presidency of the Reverend Father Martin Luther, Master of Arts and of Sacred Theology, and Lecturer in Ordinary on the same at that place. Wherefore he requests that those who are unable to be present and debate orally with us, may do so by letter. In the Name our LORD Jesus Christ.

It is my one day off. Saturn's Day. One single solitary day wherein I am neither compelled nor obligated to engage in any sort of labor or endeavor. O, 'tis a blissful indulgence...  as rare and sweet as a taste of chocolate.

These Things I Carry

(Oct 25 2008 02:47 GMT)
The hour grows quite dark... With the Autumnal tilt, daylight becomes scarce in the evenings of late. My homeward trek becomes increasingly a night-time commute. As I close up the facility for another week, I pause...  listening...

Atheist. Drunk. Chain-smoking. One profanity-laced tirade of blasphemy after another. This was a friend of mine...

sweet-breathing Zephyrus did softly play

(Aug 09 2008 04:59 GMT)
The house is quiet, and growing quieter. Candace is upstairs with the children, no doubt tucking them into their blankets and leading them in their evening prayers. I await her presence, here at the end of this day...

Steady the Roar of the Gale

(Aug 02 2008 22:33 GMT)
A mild and gentle Satyr's day. Our house arose sleepily to greet the flaxen-gold Summer morn. Israel first, in dimple-cheeked creeping across the squeaky beams. I watched him cross the floor and descend the stairs, in my mind's eye. Desirous to remain asleep and enfolded in my love's warm embrace, I kept my eyes shut 'gainst the encroaching morning light and my chest pressed into my beloved's back for warmth in the chill of late Summer's Dawn.

"...struts and frets his hour upon the stage..."

(Jul 26 2008 01:56 GMT)
I sink into the chair at my desk in the office, a long slow sigh escapes my lips... "What a day," I murmur to myself. "What a week." my beloved smilingly corrects me, and bathes me in her eyes of cćruleus blue as she walks through the office and into the Living Room. Too true...

"...these for you, so small and young..."

(Jul 21 2008 06:59 GMT)
Earlier this week was Candace's first Ultrasound examination at the Sajak Pavilion of Anne Arundel Medical Center here in Annapolis. It was during this occasion that we discovered that our previous estimate of Candace's burgeoning pregnancy was a trifle early. That is, our own estimation put the child being born towards mid/late December but the technician assured us of a due date somewhere in the first couple weeks of January. As we were rather early for this Sonogram procedure, it boded poorly for our chances of finding a clear indication of the baby's gender. Typically, gender is clearly identifiable after 17-20 weeks and we are only at about 15 weeks at this point.

Only for a moment...  only for a moment shall I hesitate, hesitate in the midst of the maddening roar of life. A rolling stone gathers no moss and stars don't stand still in the sky.

Peace, Love, & Understanding

(Jul 07 2008 14:57 GMT)
As I walk through this wicked world, searching for Light in the darkness of insanity...          I ask myself: "Is all hope lost? Is there only pain and hatred, and misery?"          And each time I feel like this inside,          there's one thing I wanna know:

Explosions in the Sky

(Jul 05 2008 06:59 GMT)
So...  I stand, holding my toddling daughter upon my shoulders, and I watch explosions in the sky. Glimmering explosions in the sky, multicolored sparks of liquid fire raining color and wonder across the faces of my children. A tremor of fear and the thunderous roar, then a wide-eyed joy at the magic beauty of burning phosphorous chlorides and metal nitrates. Explosions in the sky, and the Fourth of July.

"...not for a seat upon the Dais..."

(Jul 01 2008 00:59 GMT)
So...  it is fifty-three minutes after five o'clock, and the first day of Summer Camp is winding to a close. Only a handful of children remain and half of those are the relatives of staff members, including my own children. The last twelve hours have been one action-packed and fun-filled adventure after another. Now that the workday is nearly done, I can pause for a brief moment...

"...he finds GOD there, far unlike his books."

(Jun 26 2008 00:55 GMT)
The scene...  today, at work. Luncheon hour, in the midst of a tedious day-long training seminar. I was in a rather deep conversation with "Joe" (a dear colleague of mine) about his ardent (but peace-loving) Muslim faith, and we were really making some interesting inroads into the foundational aspects of his theology. "Matthew?

Jairus

(Jun 16 2008 06:59 GMT)
So...  GOD takes your child by the hand          and pulls her from her deathbed.                    and HE says: "Feed her, she is ravenous." You give her fruits with thick hides          pomegranate, cantaloupe...

Proceeding out into the front hall of the sanctuary to greet the Pastor, my custom always at the conclusion of each worship service, I extend my hand to thank him for the Word and message of the Lord's day morn...  also too, I wish him a happy and blessed Father's day.                    "...and a very special Father's day to you, brother," he responds, with a beaming face and full embrace. Is it so obvious?

A Heritage of Stewardship

(Jun 14 2008 22:33 GMT)
"...is it not enough for you to feed on the good pasture, that you must tread down with your feet the rest of your pasture; and to drink of clear water, that you must muddy the rest of the water with your feet?" - Ezekiel 35:18 It was a beautiful day to be outside.

48 Minutes of Hell

(Jun 14 2008 01:56 GMT)
My knees feel like they're swimming in a thick viscous fluid...  and they ache. My ankles are throbbing and swollen. My toes are numb. I think, perhaps, that I just might have overexerted myself a bit.
